Following promoting offensive lineman James Ferentz to the active roster on Saturday, the Patriots had an open spot on their practice squad.
The team wasted no time filling it, as it added linebacker Ufomba Kamalu on Monday.
Kamalu was an undrafted rookie by the Texans in 2016. He began his rookie season on Houston's practice squad before being added to the 53-man roster on Nov. 26. Kamalu appeared in 13 games with three starts for the Texans from 2016-17 and registered 11 tackles along with three sacks.
He was released prior to this season and spent some time on the Cardinals' practice squad. The Patriots saw some of Kamalu during joint practices in 2017.
The Patriots will likely need to make another roster move at some point this week since it seems rookie Duke Dawson will be activated off injured reserve.
