Name: Beau Allen
Position: Defensive tackle
Age: 28
College: Wisconsin
Experience: 6 years (four with Eagles, two with Buccaneers)
Best season: 2016 - 29 tackles, 5 for loss, .5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery
Salary: Two-year, $7 million deal with $500,000 in incentives each year with cap hits of $2.88 million in 2020 and $3.95 million in 2021
Fun fact: His nickname is the Butter King, which he got from Chris Long. “I’m a big game guy. I play a lot of games,” Allen said. “It came from my family because we play a lot of games, and we play this game called KanJam. Great game. And I throw straight butter. Straight butter.”
Career summary: For being a seventh round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Allen has made a decent career for himself, including winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017. He recorded two tackles in the game, but signed with Tampa Bay in the offseason. Allen started eight games in 2018, but did not start any last year.
Potential fit with Patriots: Allen seems like a natural replacement for Danny Shelton, who signed with the Lions as a free agent. The 28-year-old will be given every opportunity to earn a roster spot as well as significant playing time. His contract seems to indicate the team plans on him making the 53-man roster. Right now, the Patriots have Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler and Allen at the defensive tackle position. This could be a spot that gets added to with some leftover free agents as well as via the draft.
