With the Thursday night game, the Patriots did not play Sunday, but even with the day off the team had a good day. They are quietly building a lead when it comes to the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
The Patriots are the only undefeated team left in the AFC and there's only one other team with fewer than two losses -- the Bills, and they were on their bye this week, so they have played one fewer game than New England. It also owns the tiebreaker over them thanks to its Week 4 win in Buffalo.
The biggest game of the day relating to the Patriots was the Texans beating the Chiefs, 31-24, at Arrowhead Stadium. This was the Chiefs' second straight loss at home and they are now 4-2 on the year, and thus two games behind the Patriots.
Baltimore, Kansas City and Houston all lead its respective divisions at 4-2 and the Patriots will face all three teams at some point this season.
In the short-term, the Jets picked up their first win of the year, 24-22 at home over the Cowboys, which will give them some momentum heading into the Monday night game against the Patriots next week. It's clear how much better the team is with Sam Darnold at quarterback, who the Patriots were able to avoid in the first meeting.
While the Patriots certainly haven't been perfect to open the year, Sunday was a good reminder that despite their flaws, they are still the best team in the AFC and in a very good position moving forward.
