FOXBORO -- On Sunday, the Patriots will take on the Bears, who have one of the best defensive players in football in defensive end Khalil Mack.
Since coming into the league in 2014, Mack is a three-time Pro Bowler and was the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Mack was traded to Chicago from Oakland at the start of the year and in five games with his new team, he has 19 tackles, five sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown.
On Wednesday, Bill Belichick was asked if Khalil Mack is up there with Lawrence Taylor, but he wasn't going to go there.
"Now wait a minute, we're talking about Lawrence Taylor now," Belichick said definitively. "I'm not putting anybody in Lawrence Taylor's class, so put everybody down below that. And that's with a lot of respect for a lot of good players now, but we're talking about Lawrence Taylor."
Belichick coached Taylor when he was with the Giants in the 80s.
