Maybe there's a reason why there have been reports of the Patriots being interested in adding a wide receiver at the trade deadline, which is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are disciplining wide receiver Josh Gordon in Monday night's game against the Bills because of tardiness. Gordon is expected to miss several series — about a quarter — as they continue to work with him and manage him. The report notes it will be regular playing time after that.
Gordon was late Sunday before leaving for Buffalo, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Tom Brady had nothing but praise for Gordon when speaking on Saturday, a day before the team departed for Buffalo.
Gordon has been the Patriots' No. 2 receiver in terms of snaps the last two weeks.
In four games, Gordon has 13 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown.
