The Russ Bodine era in New England did not last very long.

Just over a week after he was acquired via trade, the Patriots have released the veteran center, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe. James Ferentz has been re-signed to take his place on the roster.

Ferentz was cut last week, but has been with the Patriots for a few years, so he knows the system.

The Patriots must not have liked what they saw from Bodine, who came over from the Bills. He spent his first four years in the league with the Bengals and last year with the Bills. He started all 74 games he's appeared in.

This signals Ted Karras will start at center Sunday night against the Steelers.
