A day after being released by the Patriots, safety Obi Melifonwu is back.
According to multiple reports, Melifonwu will return to the Patriots on their practice squad. The Raiders' 2017 second-round pick did not get claimed off waivers, which allows him to return to New England.
The Patriots will need to make a corresponding move on their practice squad to make room for him.
Melifonwu is a tremendous athlete, but just hasn't been able to find a role on the team.
After his release by the Raiders last October, he signed with the Patriots and appeared in two games. The Grafton, Mass. native is a good player to have on the practice squad in case something were to happen to any of the Patriots safeties.
