The Patriots are adding a tight end as training camp really gets going.
According to NESN's Doug Kyed, the team is adding veteran Paul Butler, who worked out at the facility on Sunday.
Butler, 27, has bounced back and forth between the Lions and Raiders, but has never appeared in a regular-season game. He spent most of last season on IR before joining the Lions. The tight end re-signed with the Raiders in the offseason, but was recently released.
He joins a tight ends room that includes Ryan Izzo, Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Rashod Berry and Jake Burt.
Given Matt LaCosse opting out, a veteran was certainly needed.
