Patriots reportedly cut 9 players ahead of training camp, including 2 quarterbacks

After releasing cornerback Lenzy Pipkins Saturday, the Patriots made even more moves on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, the Patriots released nine players to get down to 80 players ahead of training camp. The nine players were: safety Malik Gant, wide receiver Will Hastings, quarterback Brian Lewerke, safety Adarius Pickett, wide receiver Sean Riley, quarterback J'Mar Smith, linebacker Kyahva Tezino, defensive tackle Courtney Wallace and wide receiver Isaiah Zuber.

This will allow the Patriots to hold full-team workouts once the team is able to get on the field. Teams that stay at 90 players have to split their rosters at the start of training camp.

Quarterbacks Smith and Lewerke are the biggest names to be let go, but it's not much of a surprise following the addition of Cam Newton. There are still three quarterbacks on the roster in Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

Patriots players will report for COVID-19 tests early this week.
