Patriots reportedly not expected to use franchise tag, thus making Trey Flowers, Stephen Gostkowski, others free agents

Don't expect some big Patriots news Tuesday.

Tuesday is the deadline for NFL teams to use the franchise tag, and according to NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran, the Patriots are not expected to do so.

There were only two real candidates -- defensive end Trey Flowers and kicker Stephen Gostkowski. And just because they were not franchised doesn't mean they won't return, it just means they will likely hit the open market next week.

The Patriots appear willing to bring both back, it will just come down to money. Flowers in particular seems primed to get a ton of money, especially considering he's arguably the best defensive end on the market.

Other notable Patriots scheduled to hit free agency are: Jason McCourty, Ryan Allen, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson and Trent Brown.
