Jared Veldheer reportedly informs Patriots he plans on retiring, which leaves team with need at offensive tackle

It appears offensive tackle is now again a need for the Patriots.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Jared Veldheer has informed the team he plans on retiring.

The 31-year-old officially signed with the team just last week, but it had been reportedly a week or so prior.

Veldheer was expected to be a swing tackle for the team and a solid insurance policy for second-year tackle Isaiah Wynn and rookie tackle Yodny Cajuste.

It seems likely the team will now be in search of a similar player, as going into the year just Wynn and Cajuste, along with the other options at left tackle, is a bit risky.

Veldheer has played in 118 career regular-season games (113 starts) between the Raiders, Cardinals and Broncos.
