When the Patriots teased new uniforms were coming last week, many fans got excited about the potential of the red throwback ones the team wore many years ago.
That did not come to fruition, as Monday the team unveiled the uniforms, which have the home ones being the Color Rush ones from the past few seasons and away ones being white jerseys and navy blue pants.
But, in a statement on Patriots.com, it appears there is a chance the red throwbacks make a return at some point.
"Our primary uniforms in the modern era have been blue and white and they will remain so," Kraft Sports and Entertainment CMO Jen Ferron said. "We recognize that fans also have an affinity for the red 'throwback' uniform and we hope to incorporate that into our uniform rotation in the future."
Current rules forbid teams from using different colored helmets in the same season, and the red uniforms come with white helmets.
With that being said, the NFL has discussed changing that rule in the future. So, while the red throwbacks won't be coming this season, there's at least a chance they will come perhaps as soon as 2021.
