New Patriots wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was involved in a serious car accident during the month of February in Denver.
Thomas was charged with vehicular assault, which occurred when he was driving 70 miles per hour in a 30 mile-per-hour zone that left serious, but not life-threatening injuries to one of the two passengers in his vehicle. He eventually pleaded guilty to careless driving and avoided jail time.
The receiver spoke to TMZ on the accident, which he said he could have died in.
"I could have been gone," Thomas said.
The 31-year-old is just happy to be alive.
"I wake up every morning and thank the lord above," he said. "And, just thankful for just not even just being able to do what I do -- being able to talk, walk, eat, all those things that we forget about on a daily basis."
Thomas recently signed with the Patriots, although he hasn't been on the field as he recovers from a torn Achilles suffered at the end of last season and apparently some effects of the crash.
"It was a tough time ... and I'm still going through stuff, but I'm blessed," he said.
