Things did not go according to plan for Mohamed Sanu and the Patriots last season.
New England traded a second-round pick for him just before the trade deadline and while Sanu had 10 catches in his first game against the Ravens in Week 9, he finished the rest of the year with only 16 more.
On a video conference Tuesday, Sanu was asked that was frustrating, but he deflected.
“I’m not really focused on last year anymore,” he said. “I’m just focusing on right now and this camp and this season. Just stacking each day. Trying to get better at the little details, little things. Last year was last year. I’m just leaving it over there.”
Part of the reason for his lack of production was an ankle injury that limited him down the stretch, although he isn’t using it as an excuse.
“I was out there, so I was doing what I was supposed to do — play,” Sanu said. “I’m not focused on that anymore. I’m focused on this year.”
Sanu put in a ton of work during the offseason following ankle surgery, including hiring a live-in trainer to help perfect his craft.
The Patriots wide receivers group isn’t getting a ton of respect and it will be up to Sanu and others like N’Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers to have bounce-back seasons in order for the passing game to shine.
“I think I just need to be consistent in everything that I do,” Sanu said. “Do my job and make sure I’m where I need to be. Make sure I do the little things, so my teammates know, ‘Mo’s gonna do his part,’ so they can do theirs.”
