The Red Sox bullpen will be getting an upgrade this weekend in Texas.

On Friday, the Red Sox recalled left-hander Bobby Poyner from Triple-A Pawtucket and sent down right-handed reliever Marcus Walden. Poyner began the season with the major league club after attending spring training as a non-roster invitee. In six relief appearances before going on the DL with a left hamstring strain, he allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings, while striking out eight batters and walking only one.

Poyner most recently pitched Tuesday for Triple-A Pawtucket against Rochester, retiring all three batters faced on eight pitches.

Walden pitched 3 2/3 innings in Thursday's game against the Rangers, allowing one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks.
