The Steve Pearce era has begun.
A day after being traded to the Red Sox, Pearce will start at first base as the Red Sox open a three-game series in New York against the Yankees. He is 9-for-33 with two home runs against Yankees starter CC Sabathia. The first baseman will bat fourth giving Mitch Moreland the night off.
In order to get Pearce on the roster, the team optioned infielder Tzu-Wei Lin back to Triple-A.
Christian Vazquez will catch Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez.
