Following the Red Sox bullpen needing to work close to nine innings Saturday night with David Price leaving in the first inning due to the flu, help was needed.

Prior to Sunday's series finale against the Astros, left-hander Darwinzon Hernandez was recalled from Double-A Portland.

The 22-year-old made his major league debut on April 23 in the second game of a doubleheader against the Tigers where he threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings with one walk, four strikeouts, and four hits allowed. In seven games (six starts) for Portland he is holding opponents to a .202 batting average.

Hernandez is one of the top prospects in the Red Sox farm system.

To make room for him, right-hander Colten Brewer was optioned back to Triple-A.
