Christian Vázquez is the Red Sox' catcher of the future.
The team announced Saturday morning Vázquez has signed a three-year contract extension with the team, which will go through the 2021 season with a club option for 2022. Vázquez has also offered to make an annual donation to the Red Sox Foundation.
In 2017, he led the Red Sox with 85 starts behind the plate and appeared in a career-best 99 games, pacing American League catchers with a .290 batting average (min. 250 at-bats). He may be more known for his defensive skills behind the plate.
So far this spring, Vázquez his hitting .323 with two home runs.
