And we thought the fallout from the ESPN story was over.

According to the New York Daily News' Gary Myers, Bill Belichick sees the reported power struggle in New England as his last chance to potentially become the coach of the Giants.

A source tells Myers, "Bill sees an opening – an opening to get to the Giants." It adds that it's unclear whether or not what has happened this season in New England would be enough to force him to leave, but if he did, the Giants "are the only place he wants to be."

Of course, this comes following an ESPN story which detailed some issues within the Patriots organization this season, including the coach banning Tom Brady's personal trainer Alex Guerrero from team flights and the sidelines, and then Robert Kraft involving himself with what to do with Jimmy Garoppolo.

New England did put out a combined statement refuting much of what was reported and said, Brady, Kraft and Belichick "look forward to the enormous challenge of competing in the postseason and the opportunity to work together in the future, just as we have for the past 18 years."

Besides the statement, it is worth pointing out several things that go against this likely ever happening.

No. 1, Myers' source hasn't spoken to Belichick since the ESPN story came out. No. 2, it doesn't appear whatever took place this season would be enough to force Belichick to suddenly change his plans and quit. No. 3, going to New York would mean Belichick would no longer have complete control of the personnel of his organization, as the Giants just hired Dave Gettleman as their general manager, although Myers says the two would get along well.

The Giants were in Foxboro Friday interviewing both Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels for their vacant head-coaching position.

Belichick does have an affection for the Giants and is close with owner John Mara. Belichick coached the Giants for 12 years, including his final six as Bill Parcells' defensive coordinator.

While this may be a great talk radio story for the weekend, the chances of it actually happening appear slim to none.
