BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- According to Football Scoop, which is a reliable college football coaching website, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is expected to be named the Patriots' new defensive coordinator and replace Matt Patricia, who will become the next coach of the Lions.

Schiano is a good friend of Bill Belichick and was around the Patriots a bunch in the few years after he was head coach of the Buccaneers (2012-13) and before he took the job at Ohio State (2016).

It was expected linebackers coach Brian Flores would take over, but if this report is true, that will of course not be the case.

[UPDATE 11 a.m.]: FS1's Bruce Feldman reports Schiano hasn't decided whether he's leaving Ohio State yet and it's unclear what will happen in New England with its defensive coordinator spot. Flores could get promoted and Schiano could join the staff in some capacity.
