Does Josh McDaniels have something against the city of Indianapolis?
After he didn't go to go Indianapolis to become the next head coach of the Colts, now he won't be going to Indianapolis for the NFL combine this week.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, McDaniels and the other offensive coaches are not expected to attend. Instead, just Bill Belichick and possibly one or two defensive coaches will go. The report notes this is standard for when the Patriots advance deep into the playoffs.
This isn't a huge deal as there are plenty of other opportunities for coaches to get in front of potential draftees, but it is somewhat worth noting that McDaniels isn't going.
Some thought McDaniels would have a big say in which quarterback the Patriots draft (if they do), so him not going to the combine has him missing out on the first phase of the process.
Belichick and director of player personnel Nick Caserio are not scheduled to hold press conferences, as the Patriots are one of four teams not schedule to have media availability with the others being the Saints, Jets and Redskins.
