While NFL free agency doesn't begin until next week, a major trade went down Wednesday in the NFL.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are trading defensive end Michael Bennett and a seventh-round pick to Eagles for a fifth-round pick and wide receiver Marcus Johnson.
Seattle is apparently cleaning house and wanted Bennett out of the locker room.
Also, ESPN's Dianna Russini adds there were multiple teams in the running for Bennett, including the Patriots. Other teams were the Browns, Buccaneers and Falcons.
The Patriots will certainly be looking to upgrade their pass rush this offseason, so it shouldn't come as that big of a surprise that the Patriots were interested.
Bennett's brother Martellus is currently on the Patriots' roster, although he may be cut in the next week or so since he's due a roster bonus on March 14. Cutting him would save the Patriots $6 million against the cap.
