EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After months of it being rumored, Rob Gronkowski finally has received a salary bump for this season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots and Gronkowski have agreed on a restructure that will add $4.3 million to his contract this year. He was scheduled to have a base salary of $8 million, which will remain. The maximum value is now just over $13 million.
The tight end now has $1 million in game bonuses and then can earn an extra $1.1 million for 70 or more catches, $1.1 million for 80 percent playtime, $1.1 million for nine or more touchdown receptions and $1.1 million for 1,085 or more receiving yards. He can make three of those four for a total of $3.3 million in performance-based incentives.
This was not a surprise at all and could be a reason why Gronkowski has been on his best behavior this summer.
Gronkowski is signed through 2019.
