MINNEAPOLIS -- Moments after the Patriots lost to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII, Rob Gronkowski took everyone by surprise.
The Patriots tight end would not commit to playing next season and hinted he's contemplating retirement.
Earlier in the day, Pro Football Talk hinted at this potentially being his last game, and Gronkowski was asked about the rumor afterwards.
"I don't know how you heard that, but I am definitely going to look at my future, for sure," he said. "Sit down the next couple of weeks and see where I am at."
A follow-up was asked of what would make him want to retire?
"I am not ready for that, these types of questions," he said. "I have to sit down and reflect on the season. Talk to my teammates. We fought all year long — all the receivers, running backs, linemen. We put a lot of work in together. I just want to reflect on the season and the boys and see what happens."
Gronkowski, who is 28 years old, said concussions are not what is motivating the thought.
Asked directly if retirement has crossed his mind, Gronkowski didn't want to answer.
"We just lost," he said. "I just want to sit back and relax the next couple of weeks and I really have nothing to say about that right now."
Gronkowski finished Super Bowl LII with nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
