Last Saturday against the Yankees, J.D. Martinez could have pinch-hit for Andrew Benintendi in the ninth inning, but he did not.
After the game, manager Ron Roenicke said he wasn't available, but also he could have hit.
“We could have,” Roenicke said. “Again, both of us probably rather would have not, him and us. That’s kind of what the decision came to.”
With that, some questioned Martinez and why he did not pinch-hit and appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Wednesday, Roenicke clarified what happened.
