FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots will be without Stephen Gostkowski for the remainder of the season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gostkowski is having season-ending surgery on his left hip. Even though he was placed on injured reserve, he still could have been one of two players the team is allowed to bring back.
Gostkowski, 35, is signed through next season, but this could be a tough injury for him to return from.
The Patriots are working out kickers on Wednesday with one of them turning into his replacement. This isn't the first time Gostkowski has been placed on IR, as he was in 2010 and Shayne Graham came in to replace him.
"It was an adjustment," Mathew Slater said Wednesday. "Shayne Graham came in and kicked for us, and certainly Stephen's a unique guy in this league. You don't play for one team for 14 years unless you are. So, it was a little bit of an adjustment. Obviously operationally on field goals, it will be different. We'll see how kickoffs go.
"It's going to be an adjustment, but whatever coach decides to do, I'm sure will be what he sees will be best for the football team moving forward. We'll make the best of it."Gostkowski has missed five kicks overall this season, including four extra points.
