C.J. Anderson explains why Todd Gurley wasn't productive vs. Patriots in Super Bowl LIII

One of the biggest mysteries from Super Bowl LIII is why Rams running back Todd Gurley wasn't involved.

The running back wasn't on the injury report leading up to the game, and coach Sean McVay said he would play a big role. But, Gurley finished with just 10 carries for 35 yards and one reception for -1 yard, which came following the NFC championship game when he had just four carries for 10 yards.

Appearing on Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed" Tuesday, Rams running back C.J. Anderson said Gurley was hurt more than was led on, which explains his lack of production down the stretch and in the two final games of the year.

"He was more hurt than what we thought," Anderson said. "The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself."

He added: "Yeah, he'd never really tell me. It was tough. I would say sprained knee. Obviously, it's the same knee injury he's had before in his career. Obviously I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee, you always have a knee. So it aggravates and if he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year — obviously him being one of the best backs, that probably was the case."

When healthy, Gurley is one of the best running backs in the entire NFL, so it's certainly worth wondering what would have happened if he was fully healthy against New England.
