Tom Brady addresses not having contract beyond this season

FOXBORO -- It's the first week of June and Tom Brady still is only signed through the end of this season with a $27 million cap hit.

Of course, he could get a new deal at any time between now and the start of the season, which is why Brady doesn't seem concerned about it.

"I don't think about it too much," he said following minicamp practice Thursday. "… I think those things work themselves out."

But, have there been any negotiations to this point?

"That's none of your business," Brady joked. "I never really talk about my contract or anything like that. I don't really want to start doing that now."

For years the 41-year-old has said his goal is to play until he's 45, and it appears nothing has changed on that front.

"I hope I can play that long," he said. "You set goals for yourself and you have to have short term and long term. The reality is this year is the most important one that is the one I am focused on. I hope there is a lot of football beyond this, but it is a contact sport, I have said that for a long time, too. I don't think you can take those things for granted. I try to work hard to put my body in the best position possible to withstand the hits and so forth and make all the throws. I feel like I am in a good place right now."

There doesn't appear to be anyone in the mix to take over for Brady following this year, so one would expect the Patriots would want him to return and thus a new contract should be coming at some point in time.
