Tom Brady, Patriots reportedly currently not discussing new deal

If you were expecting a Tom Brady contract extension to be announced this week at the NFL owners meetings, it doesn't look like it will happen.

According to NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran, all is quiet on the Brady contract front.

Brady, who will turn 42 before the season starts, is entering the final year of his contract and will have a cap hit of $27 million. On top of never playing a season with it being the last year of his deal, the thought was Brady would get extended to spread out his cap hit, which would certainly help the team out in relation to the cap.

The team desperately needed more cap space before Rob Gronkowski retired Sunday night.

It is also worth noting the Kraft family has been on record ever since the Super Bowl saying they believed a deal would get done at some point this offseason.

There's still plenty of time before the games count, but it just seems odd an extension hasn't yet occurred since his extensions have typically taken place before the start of free agency.
