The Patriots suffered their first loss of the season, a 37-20 defeat in Baltimore Sunday night.
It was an unusual Patriots game given all the mental and physical mistakes that were made, which has some overreacting. But, the reality is the team is still 8-1 and as of now still the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Appearing on The Greg Hill Show Monday morning, Tom Brady looked ahead to the rest of the season and noted it is up to the team on where things go from here.
"We're 8-1, so our whole football season is ahead of us," Brady said. "That is the reality. That is not an emotional thing. We've put ourselves in a decent position here and it's not going to be about what we've done the last nine weeks. Our season is about what is going to happen the next seven weeks. It is going to be up to the guys in the locker room to determine what we want it to be. Are we going to dig deeper and fight harder and play better and prepare harder and play tougher, or are we not? If we do the first part of that then I think we will be in a great position.
"We have to take all these matchups like they are. They are all different. They are all going to present their different challenges and we're going to have to really get cued in on what we're doing and figure out how to best attack these opponents starting with the Eagles. It is a good team and we play a lot of good teams and we're going to have to play our best football. It's going to bring the best out of us.
"We've had a lot of time to figure out the things have haven't done a good job at and the things we need to do a better job at. Do more of the good and less of the bad and that is going to hopefully lead us to more margin of error and the outcomes we want on Sunday."
While there was a ton of excitement given the start of the year, as players they do not put as much stock into it just like one loss won't impact things in the other direction.
"I think part of for us players is you just have to ignore the hype," Brady said. "When everything is great it's really not and when everything is bad it's really not. You have to evaluate these weeks for really what they are. Even though we've been winning, we certainly know that it hasn't been great and that we're [not> just this unstoppable team. We have to play good. That is ultimately what it comes down to. It's not about the Patriots rolling their helmet out there. We don't approach it like that. We put the work in each week and we try to focus on the things we need to do better and try and improve in areas we think we can."
The Patriots are on their bye week this week before taking on the Eagles Nov. 17.
