Some were surprised at Tom Brady's decision to join Tampa Bay this offseason, but not good friend Jay Feely, as the pair have been close since their days at Michigan.
The CBS Sports analyst appeared on the NFL Network's Good Morning Football Thursday and explained some things Brady will be able to do in Tampa Bay that he couldn't do in New England.
“I wasn’t surprised by his decision just because of the conversation we had," Feely said. "I think in the end, he has accomplished so much. He had nothing left to prove to that organization, to the fans. His desire was to go somewhere else and to try and succeed somewhere else outside of New England. I don’t think he owed anything to the Patriots or to the Patriots fans. I think that was the reality. He wanted to go somewhere and enjoy himself, have more fun than he was having. He earned that right. He was a free agent and we’ll see how that ends up.
"He will be with a guy in Bruce Arians who is going to be aggressive, he’s going to go down the field a lot more than Josh McDaniels did. I think Tom is probably excited about that. He’s excited about the receivers. It’s the best receiving core he’s had since probably 2007 when you had Randy Moss in his prime and Wes Welker -- and maybe it is the best receiving core he’s every had when you look at it cumulatively when you add Gronk to that mix.
"It will be interesting to see how he succeeds down in Tampa and how he and Bruce Arians put that offense together. I think Tom is excited about having some autonomy in that offense — the ability to have a part and a say in that offense.”
