Last month it was reported Tom Brady will be looking to add weight by the time training camp rolls around this summer, but a reason why never was really given.

Tuesday, we got an answer, as according to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, it's because the Patriots quarterback felt like he lost some strength as the season went on last year.

“He wants to get to 232-233 pounds to start the season because he felt like he lost a little too much weight and strength as last year progressed," Giardi said on NFL Network. "Brady, constantly tinkering with that workout, feels like he’s going to maintain that pliability, but he wants to start at a little bit of a higher point.”

Giardi also pointed out Brady is in a much better place mentally than he was a year ago.

“Mentally, he’s also in great shape right now," he said. "I think you saw that in the Jimmy Kimmel interview. He feels very appreciated by the organization. That was something he was not necessarily feeling about 15 months ago after the loss to the Eagles. It’s funny what winning a Super Bowl will do for you.”

The Patriots are in the middle of their voluntary offseason workout program and it's expected Brady will not attend any of them, which means the next time he's on the field with his teammates will be for mandatory minicamp in early June.

Curls for the girls? No, not exactly (well maybe for Super G) but Tom Brady has a plan #Patriots pic.twitter.com/gD4vRsZ565
