When it comes to Tom Brady's future, the tide has seemed to turn a bit.
Immediately following the season, many predicted Brady would stay in New England. But, now that free agency is a week away, the consensus has shifted towards the quarterback leaving the Patriots.
NBC Sports' Peter King is one of them, as he said on Monday's "Good Morning Football" on NFL Network that his gut has Brady leaving New England.
"I don't know anything. I truly do not know anything," he said. "I think Tom Brady wanted to have it that way. Look, I am not saying nobody knows anything, but I asked one person very close to the story this weekend and he said, 'We're going to start to get some inkling this coming week.'
"You've got to sort of set the stage. This week is kind of like the pre-tampering week. We had the pregame show — it's like a six-hour Super Bowl pregame show. You had the first couple of hours at the combine and now this week you're in the five o'clock hour, you're really getting to it. Then next Monday, obviously when the legal tampering period begins.
"I think that this is the week the Patriots have to do something. You get the feeling, I am like everybody else and you try and read the tea leaves, you get the feeling they are going to let him go out and seek his fortune. My gut feeling is, just a gut feeling, is the Patriots are going to let him go."
As for his replacement, King believes the Patriots will sit back and wait, even as late as May 1, to see who is still available at the position before making their move.
