Sam Travis is in a tough spot.
With Hanley Ramirez and Mitch Moreland ahead of him at the big league level, it's a tough position for the 24-year-old. To help his cause, the Red Sox have tried to give him more versatility by giving him some exposure to the outfield. Unfortunately for Travis, he missed roughly two weeks this year with an intercostal strain.
Travis returned to the PawSox May 12 and has one hit since his return. For the year, he's batting .253 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He was drafted in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Indiana and quickly rose through the farm system, but has stayed put in Triple-A given the situation with the Red Sox.
Overall, Travis is hitting .292/.358/.430 in his minor league career. In 33 games in the majors, he's hitting .263/.325/.342.
It seems until there's an injury to a player at the major league level, Travis likely won't be able to make it out of Pawtucket.
