Bruins-Hurricanes series schedule set

The Bruins locked themselves into a first-round matchup with the Hurricanes when they lost to the Capitals Sunday afternoon, and now we know the schedule for the series.

The Bruins and Hurricanes will open their best-of-seven series Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. Game 2 is Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Game 3 Saturday at noon. As the higher seed, the Bruins will be the "home" team and get last change for Games 1, 2, 5 and 7.

The teams go into the series with exact opposite records, as the Bruins went 0-3 in the round-robin tournament while the Hurricanes swept the Rangers in three games in their play-in series.

If there's any silver lining for the Bruins, it could be that by the time this series starts, the Hurricanes will have gone a full week without playing a game. The Hurricanes are expected to be without defenseman Brett Pesce for the series, but they could have former Bruin Dougie Hamilton -- who also missed the play-in round -- back in time for Game 1.

Here is the full schedule for the series, per the NHL's website:

Game 1: Tuesday, Aug. 11, 8 p.m. ET

Game 2: Thursday, Aug. 13, 8 p.m. ET

Game 3: Saturday, Aug. 15, 12 p.m. ET

Game 4: Monday, Aug. 17, 8 p.m. ET

Game 5 (if necessary): Wednesday, Aug. 19, Time TBD

Game 6 (if necessary): Thursday, Aug. 20, Time TBD

Game 7 (if necessary): Sunday, Aug. 23, Time TBD
