The Bruins have made it a bit of a habit to bring in some local guys in recent years, and now they have another in the organization.
The team announced Sunday night that it has signed Lynnfield native Matt Filipe to a two-year entry-level contract.
Filipe, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound left wing, played four seasons at Northeastern University, totaling 31 goals and 44 assists in 136 collegiate games. As a senior and assistant captain this past year, he matched his career high in goals (9) and set a career high in points (23) in a season that was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
Prior to Northeastern, Filipe played three seasons at Malden Catholic, where he won two state championships. He also played one season in the United States Hockey League with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Filipe was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round (67th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He became a free agent by not signing with them before Aug. 15.
