David Pastrnak, Ondrej Kase missing from first Bruins training camp practice

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said Sunday that a couple Bruins might not be on the ice for the first day of training camp Monday due to international quarantine protocols.

Early speculation was that might include David Pastrnak and Ondrej Kase, who were both returning from Europe, where they spent the last couple months.

That would appear to be confirmed, as neither Pastrnak nor Kase were on the ice Monday as the Bruins hit the ice for a full team practice for the first time since March.

Sweeney said Sunday that he expected those protocols to be completed in the next couple days, so it shouldn't be long until those two return, barring any setbacks.

While Pastrnak shouldn't have any issue slotting right back into his usual spot alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand on the top line, Kase's absence is a little more notable given that he had only played six games with the Bruins before the season was suspended and hadn't really found a home in the lineup yet.

The expectation is that the Bruins will probably start with Kase on the second line with Krejci and Jake DeBrusk, but the more practice time he can get there before games start, the better. With Pastrnak and Kase missing Monday, it was Karson Kuhlman filling in on the first line and Anders Bjork in the No. 2 right wing spot.

Trent Frederic, Anton Blidh, Urho Vaakanainen and Dan Vladar were also not on the ice for practice, although it's currently unclear why. There could be travel/quarantine issues there as well, or it could just be that the Bruins don't want 31 players on the ice at once. Bruce Cassidy had previously mentioned the possibility of quickly spliting up into one main practice group and a second, smaller "Black Aces" group.

Here were the full lines for Monday:

Brad Marchand – Patrice Bergeron – Karson KuhlmanJake DeBrusk – David Krejci – Anders BjorkNick Ritchie – Charlie Coyle – Sean KuralyJoakim Nordstrom – Par Lindholm – Chris WagnerPaul Carey – Jack Studnicka – Zach Senyshyn

UPDATE: After practice, Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy confirmed that Pastrnak and Kase are indeed still going through the international quarantine protocols, and that a few other players were in fact separated into a second practice group in order to limit the size of the main practice a little.
