The Bruins got all of their big moves out of the way before Monday's trade deadline, acquiring Nick Holden last Tuesday and Rick Nash on Sunday.
But Bruins general manager Don Sweeney continued to bolster his club's depth before the market officially closed today, adding Blackhawks forward Tommy Wingels in exchange for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2019. The pick becomes a fourth-round selection if the Bruins advance past the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs or if the Bruins re-sign Wingels.
The 29-year-old Wingels will come to the Bruins with seven goals and 12 points through 57 games played, and has chipped in with 150 hits and 36 blocked shots.
A bottom-six energy player capable of playing center and wing, the Bruins will be Wingels' fourth team in the last two seasons, as he split last season between San Jose and Ottawa before joining the Blackhawks last summer.
Wingels has skated in 54 postseason games in his NHL career between the Sharks and Senators, recording two goals and eight points. Wingels, a right-handed shot, scored two goals for San Jose in a 22-game run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2016.
