Garden legend Rene Rancourt will soon hang up his fist-pumps, as the Bruins have announced that the longtime anthem singer will retire at the end of the season.
Getting his start in the 1975-76 season, Rancourt has performed the national anthem at Bruins games for over 40 years, and his signature fist-pump celebration following the anthem was modeled after the "Stump Pump" of ex-Bruin Randy Burridge.
The voice that's kicked off every big B's home game and countless Stanley Cup Playoff contests, Rancourt has no shortage of signature moments. But perhaps none hit harder than when he had the Garden crowd join him in the singing of the national anthem at the B's first home game following the Boston Marathon bombing back in 2013.
The Bruins plan to honor Rancourt at their regular-season finale on Apr. 8.
