Cleared by team doctors on Friday, Bruins center Patrice Bergeron is bound for Minnesota, where he will meet up with the Bruins and be a game-time decision for Sunday night's head-to-head with the Wild.
Out of action for the last 13 games due to a broken foot, Bergeron's return to the B's lineup comes in the midst of a four-game point streak (2-0-2) for the Black and Gold, and with the Bruins having posted a 9-2-2 in his absence. But that team success sans Bergeron is not giving the Bruins any pause in terms of their desire to get No. 37 back in action, as the Bruins are still battling for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, beginning Saturday just four points behind the Lightning and with a game in hand.
And after having Bergeron skate with the P-Bruins earlier this week, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy would likely have no problem with throwing his top-line center back into the mix.
He went down and skated [in Providence], but I understand he wanted to participate in a live practice, and we don't have many of those," Cassidy said before Friday's game against Dallas. "He may be able to play [right away]. But I know that our guys want to see him and see him skate here as well. Whether that's Sunday or Tuesday, I can't tell you right now until we see the whites of eyes.
"But if he joins us, there's a pretty good chance he'll play."
Bergeron, who was a Hart Trophy contender prior to his injury, has recorded 27 goals and 54 points in 55 games this season.
