Here’s what happened in the Red Sox farm system on Wednesday.
TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX (46-54): L, 3-1 vs. Columbus
-- Sam Travis drove in the PawSox lone run of the night on an RBI single. The 24-year-old has 24 RBIs on the season and is hitting .242. Mike Miller finished 2-for-3 to raise his average to .243.
-- Josh A. Smith started the game but ended up with a no-decision. The 30-year-old righty went five innings and gave up one run on three hits and one walk while striking out four.
-- Fernando Rodriguez Jr. surrendered the loss in relief to drop his record to 3-3 and raise his ERA to 3.83. Rodriguez gave up two runs (one earned) through two innings on only two hits and no walks.
DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS (42-59): L, 8-7 vs. Harrisburg
-- Portland’s efforts to counter Harrisburg’s four-run top of the 10th to tie the game fell just short. Michael Chavis, Jantzen Witte and Luke Tendler each collected two RBIs on the night.
-- Chavis, who is hitting .185 with the Sea Dogs through seven games this year, hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie. Tendler combined for back-to-back home runs with first baseman Jordan Betts in the 10th. Tendler hit a two-run shot and Betts followed with a solo homer with no outs, but the team could not scratch across the tying run.
-- In relief, Jordan Weems gave up five earned runs, the tying run in the ninth and the deciding four runs in the 10th. Weems’ season ERA jumps to 4.88.
-- Starter Teddy Stankiewicz went seven innings, giving up one run (not earned) on five hits and striking out four. The 24-year-old is 6-8 in 18 games (12 starts), and has a 4.31 ERA to go with 80 strikeouts in 104 1/3 innings.
HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX (48-53): L, 8-4 at Wilmington
-- Salem combined for 12 hits but could not make up the ground needed to catch Wilmington. Brett Netzer went 4-for-5 with an RBI, a double, and two runs scored to raise his average to .287.
-- C.J. Chatham’s average now stands at .301 after a 2-for-5 day with two strikeouts.
-- Bobby Dalbec finished with two hits and hit a two run home run in the first inning with two outs. Dalbec has a .258 average through 85 games with 24 home runs and 81 RBIs (both totals career highs).
-- Daniel Gonzalez collected the loss to drop to 7-6. The 22-year-old struck out five, but gave up four earned runs on one hit and five walks. Gonzalez has a 4.52 ERA in 22 total appearances for High-A.
SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE (43-58): W, 4-1, L, 7-1 vs. Hickory
-- The Drive salvaged game one of a doubleheader to avoid a winless day for the Red Sox farm system. Pedro Castellanos and Zach Sterry each went 2-for-3 with a double.
-- Denyi Reyes picked up his 10th win of the year, striking out eight and surrendering only one run on a home run and three hits. The 21-year-old has a 1.76 ERA and 119 strikeouts through 117 2/3 innings pitched.
-- In game two, Angel Padron struck out five, but was hit with the loss after going 3 2/3 innings and giving up three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Devon Fisher gave up an additional four runs in the ninth inning.
-- Kervin Suarez went 3-for-3 with a double to raise his average to .262.
SHORT-SEASON, SINGLE-A LOWELL SPINNERS (21-17): L, 10-8 vs. Hudson Valley
-- Tyler Dearden went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. The 20-year-old is hitting .306 (.333 in his last 36 at-bats)
-- Andre Colon finished with a double and two runs scored on a 2-for-4. He has hit safely in his last four games.
-- Despite striking out twice, Alan Marrero collected two hits and three RBIs to break a streak of three straight hitless games.
