It is one of the most polarizing questions of Thanksgiving: does cranberry sauce belong on the table?
On Tuesday, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy posited the culinary inquiry to members of the assembled media, who gave a smattering of slightly bewildered responses.
"Is that a question going on in the room right now?," asked a reporter.
"I'm just thinking out loud," Cassidy responded.
The post-skate press briefing had a lighter tone than some of Cassidy's recent encounters with the media. Last Thursday, Cassidy excoriated himself and the coaching staff following the Bruins' 5-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators. As our Scott McLaughlin points out, Cassidy said he or his staff needed to "do a better job" six times. He said the Bruins' various mistakes were "on us" six times as well.
The Bruins have won both of their games since then, including a 5-2 win over the Canadiens on Sunday.
Back in the win column, Cassidy now seemingly has the time to explore issues besides why his team collapses on defense. The cranberry question, for one, is a sticky dilemma to figure out. For starters, there are at least two ways to serve it: freshly prepared, or packaged?
Cassidy doesn't want to consider those variables just yet. "Some people have the time to freshly make it, some people are under the gun," he said. "That's another question, but I'm just saying in general."
For the record, this humble blogger says "no" on cranberry sauce. It's as delightful as watching Tuukka Rask blow a postseason lead.
