Bruins center Charlie Coyle has been added to the NHL COVID-19 protocol list and will miss Wednesday night's game against the Capitals.
No further information was immediately available. The league explains the reasons a player could be added to the COVID-19 protocol list as follows:
Such “COVID Protocol Related Absences” can be the result of a number of factors including, among others: (1) an initial positive test which remains unconfirmed until confirmatory testing is completed pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (2) mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (3) required quarantine as a high-risk close contact in accordance with the Positive Test Protocol; (4) isolation based on a confirmed positive test result and/or; (5) quarantine for travel or other reasons as outlined in the COVID-19 Protocol.
After a slow start to the season, Coyle had started to pick things up lately with three goals and an assist in his last four games, including two goals in Sunday's win over the Rangers.
Coyle is the second Bruin to land on the COVID list this season, after Karson Kuhlman started the season on it.
David Krejci is expected to return Wednesday night as long as he gets final clearance after pregame warmups, and Coyle's absence now makes that return even more important.
