Most of the focus when it comes to the Bruins over the last five days has been on the five players who have been in COVID-19 protocol.
Those five -- David Pastrnak, David Krejci, Jake DeBrusk, Craig Smith and Sean Kuraly -- all remained on the COVID protocol list on Tuesday, with no other Bruins getting added.
But what about all the other Bruins who were injured before this pause? Here are the updates Bruce Cassidy provided on all of them Tuesday afternoon.
-Brandon Carlo, Jeremy Lauzon and Zach Senyshyn: “Carlo’s been on the ice. Lauzon’s been on the ice. Senyshyn’s been on the ice. Those guys, I don’t know that they’d be ready to play Thursday, that quickly. But at least they’re back skating.”
Carlo has been out since March 5 with a concussion. Lauzon underwent surgery on a fractured hand on Feb. 24 and was initially given a timetable that would have him re-evaluated in four weeks (which is now). Senyshyn suffered an upper-body injury on March 11.
-Kevan Miller: “Kevan Miller will not [play Thursday]. He is skating, but he will not be available right away.”
Miller has been dealing with lingering issues in his surgically repaired knee and hasn’t played since Feb. 18.
-John Moore: “Johnny Moore had surgery, so he’s out.”
Moore’s injury was previously said to be “lower body.”
-Jarred Tinordi: “Tinordi has an opportunity if he practices with us.”
Tinordi suffered an upper-body injury on a hit from Penguins forward Brandon Tanev last Monday.
-Tuukka Rask: “Tuukka is expected to join us for practice. Whether that’s enough time to get back in the net right away… if he makes it through practice, then obviously he’s a real possibility for Thursday. If not, Saturday.”
Rask hasn’t played since March 7 after appearing to suffer some sort of back injury.
-Ondrej Kase: “Kase has skated, but again, such an unknown with him. You almost have to go forward assuming that’ll be gravy if he gets back in, because it’s been a long time -- since the second game of the year.”
Kase suffered an upper-body injury, assumed to be a concussion, in the second game of the season and hasn’t played since.
-Trent Frederic: “Anybody that was on the trip is limited in what they can do, in terms of getting in the facility. Freddy was on the trip. He’s another guy that’s feeling better, but is gonna have to get on the ice and practice with us.”
Frederic suffered a lower-body injury blocking a shot Thursday night and did not return.
To Cassidy’s point, anyone who was with the Bruins in Buffalo has been in quarantine since Friday. The injured players who were already in Boston have still been able to use the team facility over the last several days.
The Bruins are expected to practice later in the day Wednesday if Wednesday morning’s testing goes well -- i.e. no new positives. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday night against the Islanders.
It’s unclear if the Bruins will get any of the five players on the COVID list back by then, but Cassidy did say that Kuraly will be out. He also said he was not aware of any of the five being symptomatic.
