Bruins pull Tuukka Rask for Jeremy Swayman in Game 5

Let the goaltending controversy begin. Trailing 4-2 after two periods in Monday night's Game 5 against the Islanders, Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy elected to pull Tuukka Rask in favor of rookie Jeremy Swayman to start the third period.

Rask had given up four goals on 16 shots, including three power-play goals. While none of them were truly "soft," two were snapshots that beat him over the glove. The fourth goal in particular -- scored by Jordan Eberle on the power play -- was one where it felt like the Bruins really needed, and could have had a save.

Rask had generally been very good this postseason, with a 6-3 record, .935 save percentage and 1.94 goals-against average entering Monday. He had a .926 save percentage through the first four games of this series.

This marks the first NHL playoff action of Swayman's career. He was 7-3-0 with a .945 save percentage and 1.50 goals-against average in the regular season.

The first shot Swayman faced upon entering the game was a breakaway from Eberle, which he stopped. He gave up a goal a minute later when Brock Nelson was left alone in the slot and beat him glove-side, though.
