The Bruins have signed Providence College defenseman Mike Callahan to a two-year entry-level contract beginning in 2022-23, the team announced Monday. The deal has an annual NHL cap hit of $883,750.
The Bruins acquired Callahan's rights from the Arizona Coyotes for a seventh-round pick last month. He was originally a fifth-round pick of the Coyotes in 2018.
Callahan is a 22-year-old Franklin, Mass. native and is a 6-foot-2, 196-pound left shot. He just finished his senior season at Providence, where he was a three-year captain. The Friars' season ended on Saturday with a 4-2 loss to UMass in the Hockey East quarterfinals.
Callahan finished the season with three goals and 11 assists in 34 games. For his college career, he played 136 career games with the Friars, recording 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points and a plus-24 rating.
