Maybe it's not quite as big as Christian Gonzalez's extension with the Patriots signed earlier Tuesday, but the Bruins signed a pretty big extension of their own Tuesday morning.
The team announced that it has signed 22-year-old center Fraser Minten to a seven-year extension worth $7.2 million per year. The contract begins in the 2027-28 season and runs through 2033-34.
As a rookie last year, Minten played all 82 games and posted 17 goals and 18 assists while playing 15:33 per game and winning 49.3% of his faceoffs.
Minten was originally a second-round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2022 and was acquired by Boston in the March 2025 trade that sent Brandon Carlo to Toronto.
Minten has already established himself as at least a reliable third-line center with his strong two-way play, and now the question will be how much higher he can climb in the Bruins lineup as he continues to develop and grow his offensive game.
While the $7.2 million AAV might seem high at first glance, that is essentially the going rate for third-line centers now given how much the salary cap has increased the last couple years. For the Bruins, it's also a bet that Minten still has a higher ceiling to reach.
The deal comes just over a week before the start of training camp on Sept. 16. The Bruins are currently holding captains' practices at Warrior Ice Arena, including a Tuesday session that marks the first one open to media.
