The Boston Bruins have made their second trade of the day, and it's their second with the New York Rangers. As first reported by the New York Post's Mollie Walker, the Bruins have acquired right-shot defenseman Will Borgen from the Rangers in exchange for 2027 second-round pick and conditional 2028 third-round pick.

The 2028 pick turns into a second-rounder if the Bruins make the conference finals in 2027 or 2028 and Borgen plays at least 50% of their playoff games.

Earlier Wednesday, the Bruins traded goalie Joonas Korpisalo to the Rangers for AHL forward Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth-round pick.

Borgen, 29, is signed through the 2029-30 season with a $4.1 million annual cap hit. He had 15 points (5g, 10a) in 75 games last season while playing 18:03 per game. He has also played for the Buffalo Sabres and Seattle Kraken during his seven-year NHL career.

Borgen has appealing tools, as he's 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, a good skater, and physical. Analytically, it hasn't quite translated to great on-ice results, though. The Bruins will be hoping that changes in Boston.

The trade for Borgen also adds to what has become a logjam on the Bruins' back end, lending further credence to the idea that someone is getting moved out at some point As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Bruins have nine defensemen under NHL contract, with Borgen joining Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov, Mason Lohrei, Henri Jokiharju, Jonathan Aspirot, Connor Clifton (signed to a two-year deal earlier Wednesday) and Jordan Harris (re-signed on a one-year, league minimum deal Wednesday). Plus, Frederic Brunet is expected to push for an NHL job and would need to clear waivers if Boston tries to send him back to Providence to start the year.
