Bruins unveil Centennial Game uniform to be worn Dec. 1

The Boston Bruins are not expected to have a full-time third jersey this season, but they did unveil a commemorative Centennial Game uniform on Monday that is sure to be a best seller.

The Bruins will wear the uniform on Dec. 1 against the Montreal Canadiens as the organization celebrates the 100-year anniversary of their first-ever game on Dec. 1, 1924, against the Montreal Maroons.

The jersey draws inspiration from the design worn by the team in the 1980s, with a few twists – particularly gold running to the bottom of the sleeves, and socks that are black on top and gold on the bottom instead of one primary color top to bottom.

The jersey also features the Centennial crest the team wore all of last season, but now in traditional Bruins gold instead of the sparkling “Centennial gold” they used last year.

“The Centennial Game will be a special moment for our organization and more importantly, our fans, so the jersey design had to be fit for the occasion,” Bruins president Cam Neely said in a statement. “There are so many elements for both fans and the players to enjoy, but my favorite part of the jersey is on the bottom hemline; When our players pull this jersey over their heads, they will see our core values: tradition, grit, passion and heart. These are the values that we have embodied for a century and will carry with us for the next generation, which starts December 1.”

The team unveiled the uniform on social media in a video featuring Bruins captain Brad Marchand skating at Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena, the oldest hockey arena in the world and the Bruins’ original home (when it was known as Boston Arena).

There have been rumors that these uniforms, or something very close to them, could be part of a permanent rebrand after this season, but at this time, the Bruins did not announce any plans for the new threads beyond the Dec. 1 Centennial Game.
