Milan Lucic reached 1,000 games played last season, but because there were no fans in attendance at the time, the Calgary Flames made plans to honor him at some point this season.

They picked the right point, choosing to do so Saturday night during the Flames' lone home game against the Bruins, the team Lucic played 566 of those games with over the course of eight seasons from 2007-15 and won a Stanley Cup with in 2011.

During the first commercial timeout of the game, the Flames honored Lucic's accomplishment with a brief display on the jumbotron that was met with a loud "LOOOOOOCH" from the Calgary crowd and stick taps from both the Flames and Bruins.

The Bruins also shared their own tribute to Lucic on social media that included comments from former teammates Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Chris Kelly.

Before the game, Lucic said that celebrating the accomplishment with the Bruins in the house did make it more meaningful.

"To have it here tonight and recognize it against a team that I played over half of my games with will be pretty cool," Lucic said.

"Great teammates, great players, still playing at a high level," he said of Bergeron and Marchand. "I think that just adds to it, to have some former teammates, Chris Kelly behind the bench, and just the trainers and stuff here for it. (People) I spent a lot of time with, just adds to it all."
